The Boyfriend by Daniel Hurst

 

Adele's life is finally working out.  She is engaged to Tom and they love their house.  They both have good careers and she also has a good set of friends.  Then one day she hears that her high school boyfriend is dead, a suicide.  Adele hadn't seen or talked with him since high school but she wonders what could possibly have made him so unhappy that he would end his life?

Then when attending her university reunion, she discovers that her university boyfriend has also recently died, the result of an accident.  She starts to wonder and is sure when her next boyfriend, a man she traveled the world with, is found dead.  She goes to the police but they laugh her off.  She doesn't talk about it with Tom and that causes tension between them.  

As her past boyfriends continue to drop like flies, Adele is sure someone is killing them all and will come for Tom.  What can she do?

Daniel Hurst is a British author of psychological thrillers.  The pace is rapid and the reader will wonder whether to sympathize with Adele or write her off as a drama queen.  I listened to this book and there were multiple narrators, all of whom did an excellent job.  The twist at the end is amazing and will make the reader want to find more of Hurst's work to read.  This book is recommended for mystery readers.
