The First Time I Saw Him by Laura Dave

Five years ago, Hannah Hall's world fell apart.  Her husband, Owen, had to disappear when he ran afoul of a criminal organization, one his father had been legal counsel for.  Owen had testified against the organization and they will never stop looking for him.  Hannah was left with a teenage stepdaughter, Bailey, who hasn't forgiven her for marrying her father and a knowledge that she and Bailey will never see Owen again.

The grandfather, Nicholas, had brokered an agreement that Hannah and Bailey would be left alone but when Nicholas's death is reported, that agreement ends.  Nicholas had been friends with the head of the organization but he has turned the reins over to his children and the new head hates Daniel for testifying against her husband and putting him in prison.  She will do anything to get back at Daniel, including going after Hannah and Bailey.

Laura Dave has created another tense, pulse-pounding thriller that continues the story of Owen and Hannah.  The action is fast and furious and the plotting is intricate.  Readers who enjoyed the first book, The Last Thing He Told Me, will also enjoy this one which is recommended for thriller readers.
